Obituary for Susan Lynne Sproul

Susan Sproul left this world peacefully at sunrise on September 13th, 2017 with her three sons – Jeff, Dave, and Matt – by her side. She will be incredibly missed by her boys, her partner Rick, and her granddaughter Abbie, as well as by the partners of her sons, Sara, Breanne, and Sabrina.
Susan was born on June 4th, 1959 to Bob (Robert) and Ruby Sproul – a new sister to Heather. She grew-up in Etobicoke, graduating from Hilltop Middle School and Scarlett Heights High School. A notoriously hard worker, she went on to earn her BScN from McMaster University in 1982 and her Master’s in Nursing from the University of Toronto in 1986.
Susan always looked out for others and placed others before her self. After starting her career as a nurse at Sick Kids Hospital, she would go on to become the Dean of Health and Community Services at Durham College, where she made a difference in the lives of hundreds of future nurses. She also held earlier teaching and leadership roles at Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. She was loved and appreciated by staff and students alike, some of whom lovingly cared for her at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
In addition to raising her boys, Susan was the mother to five golden retrievers (Teddy, Morgan, Sophie, Shelby, and Carly).
It is difficult to understate Sue’s positive personality and love of life. She was a true gem – one of a kind. She had a heck of a sense of humour and wit, both of which will live on in her boys.
We will be celebrating Susan’s life and legacy on Sunday, September 17th at Newcastle Funeral Home. All who have been touched by Susan’s personality, love, and kindness are welcome to join us between 12-4pm (guests may “come and go” as they please).
